My first experience of informal 'tutoring' was helping my brother with his GCSE maths. My strength has always been in maths/science subjects whereas my brother found it more difficult, but I worked through different maths topics with him, before helping with example questions and past papers. I also tutored a younger student (in degree-level content) at university whilst completing my Masters degree in Physics.
I have since privately tutored all levels of secondary school maths for more than three years (Key Stage 3, GCSE, A-Level and equivalents), successfully teaching students of many different abilities. I have found one-to-one teaching to be very enjoyable and rewarding and I take great pride in helping each student improve and succeed.
I also have some experience of tutoring GCSE physics, though my main passion is for teaching maths, since I find it more interactive between student and tutor. This is why I decided to focus on maths, especially since this is backed up with substantial experience and my thorough knowledge of exam boards at all levels of maths.
I have always liked maths and related subjects, enjoying puzzles and working towards solutions. But I have great enthusiasm for other things in life - football and other sports, films, books and travel are just some of these things.
I appreciate the variety of peoples' interests - not everyone likes maths as much as me - and that we all have our strengths and weaknesses, but I believe every student can get satisfaction and enjoyment from the tutoring experience, as well as the tools to improve mathematically and perform in exams.
